Diagnosia is an independent European project that provides medical drug information for users. The website allows users to search for specific medications and locate data on that medication. The user can search by drug name, substance or producer. Alphabetical listings are provided to help speed up the search process. When searching, the user can also filter the results further by substance or producer if they have that information available. Diagnosia also provides a health center that gives the user a place to learn about health related issues. The website is currently available in German, English, Spanish and French. Some drug entries include a leaflet or other document that the user can view to obtain more details. The basic entry for each item covers what it is, what it is used for, how it is used, how it works, who produces it, the date it was authorized, therapeutic area, active substance, ATC code, benefits, risks and why it was approved. Diagnosia was founded in February of 2011 by Lukas Zinnagl, Marco Vitula, Eric Pfarl, Fritz Hoellerer and Stefan Weixelbaumer. The website was intended to become Europe’s best drug search engine. So far, the website is not providing a lot of information or resources. Diagnosia is currently in beta.
There are numerous places to obtain information on medications and health issues and Diagnosia is not among the best searchable directories of medications. The website covers a list of important areas for each medication, including risks, benefits and how it works. It is not a substitute for the advice of a physician, but it can help users learn more about the medications they are or will be taking.
Diagnosia uses a soft blue and white color scheme highlighted with hints of orange and gold. The plain white background may seem a little bland, but it works well with the other design elements for this type of website. All the links and information is well organized so the user can access it quickly without feeling lost or overwhelmed. There is a lot to learn here, so that organization is very important to keep Diagnosia as user friendly as possible.
Visitors are not required to sign in to search for medications on Diagnosia. Those who would like to register can do so by clicking the gold “Sign Up” button in the upper, right hand corner of the website. At this time, there is no official account offered for users however the form provided lets the user add their email address to a distribution list. When Diagnosia goes live, the user will receive a notification so they can return and explore the site.
Anyone can access the search for free. There is no cost or fee for using Diagnosia. The website brings together a great deal of information that the user can find otherwise, but does so in an organized, concise manner. Diagnosia is currently in beta, so it is possible that premium features may be added later. For now, the site is available for free and there is no indication that this will change any time soon.
Diagnosia is a resource for anyone who is or will be taking a medication. The website provides some information about questions that are commonly asked when a patient begins taking a new prescription. There are better resources available.
